UK’s leading 15-goal polo tournament plays from 1 – 23 June 2013

The Royal Windsor Cup is the oldest competition to be played at Guards Polo Club. It was first played in the Club’s inaugural year, 1955, and today it is regarded as the leading medium-goal tournament in the UK, attracting the best 15-goal teams in the sport.

An impressive list of 18 teams has signed up for this year’s Al Habtoor Royal Windsor Cup, including the current holders, Chris Mathias’s Clarita Black. There are many other impressive names in the team list, not least Chris’s wife Clare, who has entered her Clarita Pink team. Another family rivalry may well come from the McCarthy brothers as both Spencer and Clinton have entered their own Emlor teams.

This is the fifth year of sponsorship by Mr Khalaf Al Habtoor and his Al Habtoor Group. Although Mr Khalaf does not play polo himself his sons and grandsons have a huge passion for the game, including creating the impressive Dubai Polo Club in the United Arab Emirates, home to the Dubai Gold and Silver Cups.

Matches in this prestigious medium-goal tournament may start on Saturday 1 June, but all the teams will have to be on their best form throughout the three weeks of competition in order to reach the Final on Sunday, 23 June at Smith’s Lawn. The Al Habtoor Royal Windsor Cup is historically presented by HM The Queen and this wonderful day of polo concludes with a spectacular carriage driving procession on the Queen’s Ground by the British Driving Society.

The Al Habtoor Group is one of the United Arab Emirate’s most successful and respected diversified business corporations. The Group’s Construction division has a rich portfolio having created some of world’s most stunning landmarks such as the magnificent symbol of Dubai, the Burj Al Arab. Habtoor Motors is the exclusive distributors for McLaren, Bentley, Aston Martin, Mitsubishi Motors and Temsa in the UAE.
